Submission Guidelines
Types of results we publish
  • Civil jury and bench trial results
  • Civil settlement results (with the noted requirements below)
  • Binding arbitration results
  • Directed verdict and non-suit results
  • Results received on motion for summary adjudication

Types of results we don't publish
  • Settlements with confidential amounts (Although we may keep the names of the parties, caption and case number confidential, we must have a settlement amount)
  • Hung jury results (The case may be retried and the fact that there was a prior hung jury can be reported in the jury trial result summary)
  • Mistrials (for the same reason as hung juries)
  • Results where the sole opposing party is in Pro Per
  • Results where opposing counsel are not disclosed (We recognize there are circumstances where identifying an attorney identifies the party. In those cases, we will not identify the attorney in the publication. But to verify the information reported, we require that all opposing counsel be disclosed)
  • Results where insufficient information is available (Cases subject to complete confidentiality agreements and cases where the confidentiality prohibits disclosure of sufficient information for the report to be useful to other attorneys, will not be reported)
  • Duplicative results (Report the entire case at one time. Please do not report partial settlements or a bifurcated trial if the damages phase is still pending)
  • Voluntary dismissals (in exchange for a waiver of costs)
  • Nuisance results
  • Results over one year old
  • Small Claims cases
  • Non-binding arbitrations

Because of the number of cases we receive, we ask that you send additions, corrections, etc. by fax or email only.

Report Format
If you choose not to use the online form, please still use it as a guide -- so that you send the same information in the same order.

Verification process
Once we receive a verdict or settlement, we prepare a draft of the report based on the information obtained from the reporting party. We then fax it to all counsel identified and request assistance in providing missing information and in verifying the accuracy of the report. Where the parties cannot agree and the dispute cannot be resolved, we will report each party's respective assertions as "per the plaintiff" and "per the defendant".

The Daily Journal Corporation reserves the right to exercise editorial prerogative regarding any submitted case reports. Please indicate if the matter contains precedential or other extraordinary information.
